DARNELL WHITE -- composer of "There You Are"

I met Darnell a few years ago, and his effervescent life condition really wowed me. Fast forward to last year as I was looking for the right material to include on my new album, Romantic Notions.

I am an avid follower of the most titular interpreter of Darnell’s music (other than Darnell himself), Diva LaMarr. I looked forward to the videos he released on social media. One such video featured a Darnell song that really resonated, but I did not think that particular song was right for me.

But it got me thinking, maybe Darnell has some song in his trunk that might work. I reached out to Darnell and he couldn’t have been more gracious, sending me numerous songs of his for my creative team to consider. In the end we landed on There You Are. We worked up an arrangement and I told Darnell if he didn’t like what we did with his song, I would respect that and not record it. Gratefully, Darnell seemed sincerely excited about our new take.  I can’t wait for you to hear this one. It really is terrific! 🤗
